Privacy Policy

Turn a Phrase is a mobile app for learning English idioms, made by Mocklet Design ("we", "us"). This policy describes what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how it's used, and how you can delete it. We've tried to keep it short, plain, and honest — if anything is unclear, write to help@turnaphrase.app.
What we collect
If you create an account
- Email address — to sign you in and recover the account.
- An anonymous user ID — a random UUID assigned by our backend so your progress can sync across reinstalls.
If you use the app as a guest
- An anonymous user ID only — no email, no identifier we can map to you personally. Stored locally and on our backend so your streak survives reinstalls.
Either way, we record
- Learning progress — which idioms you've seen, your quiz answers, your spaced-repetition state, your streak. Used to show you what to learn next and to compute stats.
- Push notification token, if you grant the permission. Used only to send the daily reminder.
What we don't collect
- No location data.
- No contacts.
- No analytics across apps — no IDFA, no cross-app tracking, no Apple ATT prompt.
- No advertising identifiers.
- No biometrics, health, financial, or sensitive personal data.
- No data sold or shared with advertisers. Ever.
Third parties we send data to
- Supabase — hosts our database and authentication. Your account row, learning progress, and push token live here. Supabase privacy policy.
- Anthropic (Claude) — generates lesson content (origin stories, quiz distractors) when an idiom isn't already in our library. We send only the idiom text, never your account or identity. Anthropic privacy policy.
- Expo — delivers our push notifications. Your push token is registered with Expo's relay so daily reminders can reach your device. Expo privacy policy.
We don't sell data to any of these third parties. They process it solely on our behalf, under contracts that bind them to do so.
Retention
Account and progress data are kept for as long as your account exists. If you don't open the app for 365 days and you signed up with email, we may email you to confirm whether to keep the account before deletion. Guest (anonymous) accounts that haven't been used in 365 days are automatically purged.
Deletion
You can delete your account, all stats, streaks, saved collections, and push tokens at any time from inside the app:
- Open Settings (last tab in the bottom nav)
- Scroll to the Account section
- Tap Delete account and confirm
The deletion is immediate and irreversible — every row tied to your user ID is removed from our database, and the authentication record itself is dropped. We have no "soft delete" or restore mechanism. If you also want us to confirm by email that deletion completed, write to help@turnaphrase.app.
Children
Turn a Phrase is rated 4+ on the App Store and Everyone on Google Play. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (GDPR / CCPA / UK GDPR / others), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your data (see above for the one-tap path).
- Export your data — Settings → Content → Export my data gives you the full JSON.
- Object to processing or restrict it — email us.
Changes
If we change this policy in a material way (we collect something new; we add a third party that processes your data) we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where required, notify you in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the new policy.
